2022-23 annual funding - England only

UAL Awarding Body would like to provide a reminder of the current funding position for its qualifications.
The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) have confirmed that funding will be issued on an annual basis for qualifications across the 14-16 and 16-19 landscape. Funding for the next academic year is confirmed each July. This position is consistent across all funding offers and all Awarding Organisations.
UAL Awarding Body will update centres as soon as the new funding data has been published, however most centres will be able to access this information from July via Find a Learning Aim.
UAL Awarding Body expect our current portfolio of qualifications to continue to be funded each year at their current levels. We have not made any changes to our qualifications that would warrant a change in their funding status. This position will continue until the government’s programme of vocational and technical qualification reform comes into effect from 2025/26. Should there be any unexpected changes to the funded status of any qualifications, we will communicate this to our centres.
Withdrawal of funding approval from qualifications with low and no publicly funded enrolments - England only
As you may be aware, in 2020, the ESFA removed funding for qualifications with low and no publicly funded enrolments. Low enrolments are defined by 99 or less publicly funded learners over a three-year period.
In England only, the following qualifications had public funding removed for first start from 1 September 2022:
UAL Level 2 Award in Fashion Business and Retail
UAL Level 1 Award in Music, Performing and Production Arts
UAL Level 2 Award in Music Performance and Production
UAL Level 2 Award in Photography
UAL Level 2 Certificate in Photography
UAL Level 3 Award in Photography
UAL Level 3 Certificate in Photography
UAL Level 2 Award in Printmaking
UAL Level 3 Award in Printmaking
UAL Level 2 Certificate in Drawing
UAL Level 3 Certificate in Drawing
Centres are still able to register students onto the qualifications, but public funding will not be available, rather students or centres will need to self-fund the qualification.
All other qualifications not listed here, including the full Level 1 and Level 2 Diplomas still attract public funding.
Nested qualifications – England only
Some of our Award sized qualifications nested within the larger sized Diplomas or Extended Diplomas no longer attract 16-19 public funding.
Centres will still be able to register students onto these smaller qualifications, but they will need to be privately funded.
The smaller sized qualifications which are no longer eligible for public funding are as follows:
- UAL Level 2 Award in Fashion Business and Retail
- UAL Level 1 Award in Music, Performing and Production Arts
- UAL Level 2 Award in Music Performance and Production
It is important that Centres are aware of these changes, as permitting students to fallback to these qualifications which no longer attracts public funding will impact your funding submission.
These qualifications still have public funding available for 14-16 year olds until 31/07/2023 and are expected to do so in the 2023/4 academic year.
Funding for these qualifications do not affect the Nations.
