How are fashion exhibitions conceived, developed, delivered? The Exhibiting Fashion research project has been looking into these questions using live observation and analysis of collaborative practice-based research.
Dr. Jeffrey Horsley presents his AHRC funded project investigating fashion exhibition-making in UK museums. This practice-based research has developed a ‘toolkit’ that will equip non-specialist curators in small and mid-sized museums to create innovative fashion displays.
Curatorial staff at Manchester Art Gallery (Manchester), the Beecroft Art Gallery (Southend) and Bankfield Museum (Halifax) were collaborating partners on the project. Co-Investigator Angela Piccini (University of Plymouth) worked alongside Dr Horsley, using participant-focused film-making techniques, to document live the practices of exhibition-maker and curators.
Exhibiting Fashion is funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council and supported by the Centre for Fashion Curation, University of the Arts London.
