It was such a magical night, myself and my best friend/soulmate Ami always go together and show up in our most kawaii, decadent outfits. I had literally come straight from a closing shift at my retail job and ran to Ami's to get ready (we intended to make the fashion runway and we did!) - it was a chaotic but incredibly special night surrounded by our people. This outfit was a Rococo, kawaii interpretation of the theme whilst still adding my whimsical, BonBon flair hehe and also coordinated with Ami as well. I have gathered a lot of these pieces over the years and the ruff was made for my university FMP by the amazing Aurelie Fontan for my black girl superhero project - Sweet Shop Six. I rewore it because it just seemed criminal not to with this fit and she kindly let me hold on to her magical creation which I am eternally grateful for! I am a photographer/creative director with a kawaii fashion magazine BonBon so I have collected a lot of amazing pieces over the years for shoots.

This lewk was for the Studio 54 pawty. To be celebrated by primarily Black femme/queer people was such a beautiful, life-giving experience. My feathers, leather, gold and sequins were not only part of a fierce act of self expression, but a reclamation of my queerness in full bloom.
