Tommy Ruhan is a 2020 BA Fashion Marketing graduate, currently working as a songwriter based in London.
No, I never knew what I wanted to do, I still don’t. Taking a degree in fashion marketing was something that sounded different to anything I had studied before. Teachers always tell you growing up to pick something you’re interested in to study and so I did, with little thought as to what I’d do next.
I’m currently working on my music and seeing where it take me. This year I’ll bring out my first single. I just want to make music I like to listen to, might help if a few other people like it too. Professionally, I’d like to still be in music, if not I’ll fall back onto a marketing career.
I wanted to be in a creative environment as well as the best place for my course.
I didn’t want to study what everyone else I knew at the time was gonna do. I didn’t want to be another business student just taking the subject because their parents told them to. LCF was different and I had more access to creatives.
A little bit a day goes a long way. Stop procrastinating and just do it because at the end of the day you get the grade you deserve, and no good grade comes without hard work.
I enjoyed the personal project the most as I was able to really focus on my own work and deeply research things that I was genuinely interested in. I also really liked creating visuals for my project - app mock ups and posters, etc. I bettered my photoshop skills through using this process regularly!
My dissertation was my favourite project as it was my biggest. I was told I could choose who to focus my project on and I chose a brand called Belstaff. I ended up creating an innovative marketing strategy design to build extreme engagement with consumer and a community around the brand! Using theorists and marketing methods I had learnt over the three year course I was able to better develop my ideas. The project was very time consuming but worth the effort as I am so proud of my work.
