Yanni is a recent graduate from London College of Fashion’s Graduate Diploma in Fashion Design Technology, with a focus on artefacts.
I used to work as a womenswear / kids-wear designer. Before working, I came from a fashion design background.
It helped me figure out different possibilities for working as a designer / artist, not only designing garments. It really pushed me to think in a wide view to develop my ideas through different agents.
My tutor always challenged me to dig into my research and also gave me a lot of helpful advice. They also helped deepen my understanding about fashion, which encouraged my continuous passion to achieve in every process.
My final project is about the theme colourblindness. I chose retro-futuristic eyewear as my agency to develop my idea with all of my visual research. It’s really interesting and I totally enjoyed doing the project. I was quite pleased with the results as I came out with many designs which challenge conventional glasses.
I developed over 15 styles but only 6 styles made the final collection. Unfortunately, none of them have been made ‘real’ due to the current circumstance but I did improve a lot of my digital skills, learning how to communicate my idea through illustrations in a more thoughtful and “clever” way.
I’m studying MA Artefact now, hoping to develop more work before entering the industry.
It helps you to develop your ideas and figure out what you really want to do, especially, if you want to do an MA - this is definitely beneficial to help you understand more.
