Members of the LCF Founders Club gathered in Poplar Works, to celebrate the graduates who have been given free studio access in the Fashion District. Poplar Works is one of the many studio spaces in East London hosting rising creatives with the aim of helping smaller businesses grow to their full potential. This partnership with LCF’s Graduate Futures and LCF Business and Innovation offers additional support and funding alongside the opportunity of having a studio space for two years for graduates who successfully pitch their brands and business models.

We're introducing the new residents of Poplar Works for 2023 and next up we speak with ADIAMELIAS.

Congratulations on becoming a new Poplar Works resident! How does it feel to have your own workspace as part of this creative community?

Thank you! It feels very exciting and unreal, I have always wanted to have a working space and my own studio and to finally see it happen is just an amazing feeling.

Tell us more about ADIAMELIAS – what do you do and what are your core principles?

ADIAMELIAS is a sustainable contemporary womenswear brand with a core of premium everyday essentials. After I graduated from BA (Hons) Fashion Pattern Cutting in 2018, I didn't want to stop creating so I continued making pieces to sell online and grew the brand from there.

ADIAMELIAS places the importance of sustainable premium essentials and provides you with garments that are made sustainably and are also ethically produced. As a pattern cutter, my belief is that clothing should be comfortable and innovative, without faulting on style, so I design garments that are creatively cut and wearable. I believe that the things we choose to surround ourselves matter, and what better place to start than with what we wear. Most of my garments are cut and sewn here in London, however we also work with a small sewing studio in Europe.

Our Values - Sustainability, Environmentally, Customer and thoughtful purchase.

Why did you decide to create a business grounded in sustainability and thoughtful purchase?

When I found my brand I used to create a collection each season but soon realised that it was not sustainable both mentally and physically for one person to create new products season after season. It was then that I realised I needed to find my own way of doing business and started to think what sustainability meant to me and what type of brand I wanted to create. I decided that I wanted my clients to know the process it takes to make a garment and that buying by impulse to get trendy items will not help us or the environment in a long run. Having a sustainable brand and introducing made to order is not an easy process but its slowly getting there!

What do you believe that the industry is lacking?

I think the fashion industry is still lacking diversity and inclusion, and I don’t just mean body size inclusion but inclusion in opening up opportunities for start-ups and new brands - making room for minority groups to build and create. I think collaborations between renowned brands and emerging designers would open opportunities and uplift emerging designers who have not yet had their breakthrough.

What difference will ADIAMELIAS make to the fashion landscape?

By introducing a brand that operates on a made to order basis, I hope to educate people on the importance of slow fashion and sustainability. I hope to bring change in the way we shop and the relationship we have with our clothing.

What are your hopes and ambitions for the next 3 years? Where do you see ADIAMELIAS going?

I see it as an established sustainable brand, My hope is to find innovative ways of doing retail with out mass production. I see it as a brand that supports local economy, generating healthy work environment and creating higher quality and durable products. I believe the long term ambition is to run a sustainable brand that fosters change in the way consumer interact with the products.
