London College of Fashion is excited to announce its first group of students to join the newly launched Student Committee. The LCF Student Committee helps coordinate and organise events and activities, with an emphasis on coordinating and revising student community events that are already happening and that fit within the student journey across the academic year. It aims to strengthen and empower student voices in discussions and decision-making regarding all student activities and events within the College and what we can do to improve student life at LCF.

“It’s not enough to simply listen to student voices, it takes meaningful student involvement to build a successful College community”

— Sachan Popo-Williams, Student Community Activities Coordinator, LCF.

Our students joined the committee to;

  • Gain more diverse experience and knowledge about UAL in general.
  • Organise well executed events and promote a positive campus culture.
  • Play a crucial role in facilitating and easing the integration of younger students into the vibrant and diverse community, assisting them to navigate the challenges and opportunities that arise at LCF.
  • Create a supportive network that enables students to connect, learn from one another, thrive academically and personally.
  • Contribute to the committee's mission of promoting diversity, inclusivity, and a sense of unity among LCF students.
  • Help bridge the gap between different academic years, fostering a collaborative atmosphere that transcends the traditional student hierarchy.
  • Continue to build a stronger, more connected LCF community by being the advocate, supporter, and the catalyst for positive change.
  • Create comfortable social environments and events that make students like first years and international students feel more comfortable and at ease with the new transition.
  • Contribute ideas, collaborate with fellow students, make new friends and actively participate in fostering a community that champions both creativity and sustainability.

I consider the power we hold as a student body crucial in the promotion and action of sustainability and diversity, and thus feel this committee will be in a position to provide LCF students with the right tools and organisation to successfully achieve and demonstrate these values.

I would love to be able to apply my creative skills in an area that is separate from my course, allowing me to create fun and exciting events and activities for my peers!

— Jayda Silvestrino, BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring.

What's next for the committee?

We will share the committee's up-and-coming activity with students through the YOUR.LCF student newsletter and digital channels. In the meantime, please do encourage students to speak to a Student Committee member about any ideas they have for community building activity and events at LCF.
