Entry requirements
English requirements
You should be proficient in written and spoken English and be able to participate in group discussions and make presentations. As a guideline we would expect you to have an English language level equivalent to IELTS score of 6.0.

Academic requirements
This course is open to all students, from ambitious beginners to those with more experience. Students applying for this course are expected to be independent and highly motivated, preferably having completed one year at university (undergraduate-level study).
Course details
This course will enhance your existing communication skills and help to formulate your communication ideas. Students will be immersed in the European fashion arena for 3 weeks and will be expected, independently, to explore aspects of the industry as directed, with other students.
Although an intensive course, it is a unique and fun London fashion experience with similar minded fashion enthusiasts.
Credits:
- This course is the equivalent to 4 US style credits.

Tutor information
Melanie Ashley is a tutor in Fashion Communication. She directs communications, press and events at Central Saint Martins, including producing both MA and BA Fashion Shows, overseeing the most exciting fashion talents that emerge in London. Fashion in London is her specialist subject having worked across PR, fashion events, styling and digital innovation in London for 10 years for clients including British Vogue, Dover Street Market, Love Magazine and designers Richard Malone, Matty Bovan and Fredrik Tjærandsen. After graduating from CSM in BA Fashion Communication she worked with famed fashion PR Mandi Lennard, then alongside Camilla Lowther at pioneering photography agency CLM and has continued to focus on emerging talent in London throughout this time. Alongside her teaching and work at CSM she continues to be part of music artist M.I.A's creative team, traveling internationally which continuously informs her world view and perspective on fashion reinforcing an important sentiment - Fashion doesn't exist in a vacuum.
Materials
Please bring with you to the first session:
- Sketchbook / Journal
- Camera Phone / Digital Camera
- Pen/cil
- Laptop with Adobe Suite Software installed
Please also bring a laptop, with Adobe Suite Software installed, as well as a memory card and cable for downloading photos digitally. Items can be purchased from the college shop or local art store.
You will also be expected to bring the following to your first class:
- A picture of your favourite item of clothing
- A written profile of an Fashion Image Maker, 300 words with an image
Summer Study Abroad Award
We offer a Summer Study Abroad Award for all of our 3 week Summer Study Abroad courses.
To be eligible, you must be 18 years or older, hold an offer to join one of our 3 week Summer Study Abroad courses, and be enrolled on an undergraduate degree programme outside the UK.
- The award covers the tuition-fee only and depends on you successfully enrolling for the course. Our cancellation policy still applies.
- Award winners will be asked to take part in promotional activities to promote Summer Study Abroad, including social media posts and takeovers, and blog writing.
