Interview

Why did you choose to study your course and why CSM?

Studying at Saint Martins was always a dream of mine.. By the time I was applying for the course, I have already studied photography in two different schools and was working as a photographer for a number of years. I was looking to expand my understanding of the 'photographic' and its implementation into the fine art practices. I'd say I was looking for 'photographic potentialities', trying to match my technical knowledge and theory and MA Contemporary Photography sounded like the right choice. And it definitely was!

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on so far? What made it so interesting to work on?

I take my practice as a long-term project I suppose, and it is exciting to see how it changes along the way! I did have a few shows after graduation though, it is really nice to see work coming together in an exhibition.

Have you completed any work placements / internships whilst being on the course? If so, can you tell me a little bit about your role? (Job title, company, main responsibilities)

While on the course, I was very lucky to get the ArtsTemps placement through UAL alongside my work in photography. I worked in the darkroom at LCC while studying on the course, where I started teaching and running photography workshops back in 2021.

What important piece of advice would you give to students thinking of studying this course?

Ask questions! And I suggest to come with an open mind. Your understanding of your practice will probably shift and its important to remember that it's okay! That what the course is about. Experiment as much as you can! And use the facilities. What is really great about the course - is that you get to work in all of the workshops. Make sure you do!

What has been the highlight of your CSM experience so far?

I want to highlight the quality of teaching on the course which is absolutely brilliant. Alongside the workshops and specialist knowledge of the staff - I have learned so much working with the technicians! CSM also has an incredible library where you can find anything. Literally any book or magazine you might want!

What are your career aspirations? Where would you like to be in five years' time?

That is top secret information! But very big. You will definitely hear my name soon! Keep your ear out!

What is the most important thing you've learnt on the course so far?

I have learned how turn my thoughts into things, which is quite a unique and very important skill to have.
