Biography

Denise Bianco is a Ph.D. Candidate and Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Her research focuses on the evolving relationship between the arts and STEM as a model for transdisciplinary collaboration. She analyses how both discipline-specific and emerging competencies contribute to effective teamwork. In her work, Bianco explores barriers to collaboration and maps the competencies needed to overcome these challenges, contributing to the broader discourse on how cross-disciplinary efforts can address complex issues.

Within the MA Innovation Management program, Bianco leads and mentors students by offering fresh, creative perspectives and experience in applied innovation. Her areas of expertise include qualitative research methods, hybrid innovation processes, organisational dynamics, and the ethical and responsible adoption of digital technologies. She supports students throughout their research journey, providing methodological guidance through to completion.

Beyond academia, Bianco works as Senior Research Community Manager at The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s National Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. She is currently involved in the Advancing Biomedical Data Science Careers project (MRC funded), where she documents skills, roles, and team science approaches to support the recognition and advancement of data science careers in biomedical research. At the Institute, Bianco is also a co-organiser of the AI & Arts interest group – a multidisciplinary community connecting academia, creative industries, and policymakers to explore the mutual influence of data science and the arts and foster collaboration.
