Biography

I'm from South Korea and have worked with Approach Studio, Map Project Office and Dyson in UK as an industrial designer, currently, I currently work in British American Tobacco in London.

Before coming to London, I set up a design studio in Seoul designing objects, lighting and mass products.

In 2018, I moved to London to study an MA in Industrial design at Central Saint Martins.

Work: Project Modified

This project explores how product design practices can be involved in e-waste issues.

We are living in a throwaway culture, getting used to buying and throwing away things over and over.  Among e-waste, it focuses on smartphone e-waste, which is having severe problems now more than ever.

Project Modified provides a solution for e-waste at the level of ordinary users.

This project helps to solve this situation from the user's perspective; revitalising does make and mend spirit to help users upcycle their wasted smartphones to LED lights available at home. Project_Modified is composed of three parts. First, LED light which is made from disposable iPhone. The second is an aluminium stand which is sand cast using recycled aluminium for hanging LED light. The last is instruction.

I made the instruction so that users can easily change their smartphones by following the instruction that is part of the project. By doing so, users are deeply involved in the use of electronic waste at the individual level. The purpose of this project is to create a touchpoint that can solve social problems at the personal level by encouraging such participation.
