Biography

I am the Course Leader for MA Fashion at Central Saint Martins, where I studied Fashion Design for a BA (1988-1991), followed by an MA in Womenswear (1991-1993).

After graduating in 1993, I initiated, and was a founder member, of the design collective Commun (BFC NEWGEN recipient 1995) and of my eponymous fashion Label that showed during London Fashion Week, from 1995 until 2001 (BFC NEWGEN recipient 1995, 1996, 1997). I have also had a successful career in creative consulting and direction for luxury fashion brands in Europe and Asia.

From 1998 to 2000, I was a creative consultant for the TOD’S Group.

In 2000 I was appointed Creative Director of BRIONI.

In 2005 I joined the knitwear brand MALO as Creative Director.

In 2007 I took over the creative direction of the womenswear brand GIADA owned by the Chinese group Redstone.

In 2014 I was appointed Course Leader of the MA Fashion Course at Central Saint Martins following the untimely passing of the late Professor Louise Wilson OBE.

As a mentor and an academic, I believe the real challenges facing fashion students and educators today arise from the ongoing fundamental (re-)definition of fashion practice and enterprise. As educators, we must encourage students to be fearless and aim to disrupt the status quo, nourish their interests, and trust their intuitions, experiences, knowledge, and skills. We must ensure that they question conventions and become resilient and agile when seeking alternatives, constructive and disruptive ways to think, contextualise and make Fashion.
