Morenike Caxton-Martins is a student on MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins.
Why did you choose to study MA Art and Science at Central Saint Martins (CSM)?
After completing both a foundation and undergraduate degree at CSM, I also chose to study MA Art and Science due to the experimental nature of my practice. I enjoy testing and combining materials together such as resin and fruit. The programme offers the chance to use the Grow Lab and learn from scientists and alumni.
What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on so far? What made it so interesting to work on?
I found the first project the most interesting, as I was pushed in a new direction in my work and started using photography studios in the College to photograph my work. This encouraged me to experiment with still-life photography and backlighting.
What important piece of advice would you give to students thinking of studying this course?
Try to be as organised as possible, expect the unexpected, do not limit yourself, and befriend the technicians and your tutors! Read books/articles that you are interested in and try as many workshops as possible. If one doesn't work, try another one. Be bold, take risks and ask questions!!
What has been the highlight of your CSM experience so far?
I have 3:
