I originally studied Textile Design at Winchester School of Art, specialising in woven textiles. I worked for ten years as a stylist and writer. I have been teaching in Higher Education since 2006, joining Central Saint Martins in 2019 as the course leader of the Fashion Communication pathways. My doctoral research explores the emergence of the fashion stylist as a distinct freelance role in UK publishing in the early 1980s, combining etymology and editorial research with oral history accounts of those living and working in London at the time. Recent research has been published in Architecture Filmmaking, Fashion Stylists: History, Meaning and Practice and The Rise of the Stylist.
