A ‘Visiting Scholar’ title can be granted to a recognised post-doctoral scholar from another Higher Education or research institution, hosted by a CSM School or Research Centre; and spending a fixed term of 12 months or less with us. Appointments are made by application and approved on merit.
You will be integrated into the academic life of Central Saint Martins and enabled to contribute to the intellectual life of the College through access to our information, events and networks. You can expect:
- A UAL email account- A UAL ID card providing access to the building and membership of the library - Access to selected workshops (by arrangement) - Invitation to attend selected lectures, seminars and workshops.
Please be aware that Visiting Scholars are self-supporting. The position does not constitute paid employment.
A named member of CSM academic staff must agreed to host the visit and help facilitate internal engagement during the stay. Applications cannot be considered without an identified host. Applications are considered three times per year. Our 2025/26 application deadlines are:

If your application is approved, a bench fee will be charged at the rate of £300 +VAT per month (£360 inclusive of VAT) for periods of one year or less. The fee is payable two weeks in advance of arrival. A waiver or reduction will be considered in exceptional circumstances (including College strategic significance, visitor country of origin, etc.).
Scholars should make appropriate visa arrangements if needed. Please check if you require a visa before applying.
We are unable to offer accommodation during your visit and you will need to make personal arrangements.
