Aspiring LCC student? We've got some great advice from VJ Choolun who leads our Design, Media and Screen Portfolio Preparation (16-18 year olds) course – talking us through the key things to remember when building your portfolio, the insider knowledge shared on our five day course and his advice for those who would like to get into the creative industries...

Top 3 things to remember when it comes to portfolio preparation is:

1) Start strong

2) Have an exploratory middle

3) Finish memorably

How does learning from an internal tutor benefit those who aspire to study at LCC?

Learning from an internal tutor would be beneficial as the standards required to meet entry can be best guided by a tutor with this experience. Teaching for a variety of courses (as I do), provides me valuable insight such as each course requirements from its candidates, the level of work required as well as the standards of entry.

What would your top piece of advice be to someone looking to get into the creative industries?

  • Enjoy each and every day
  • Project a sense of professional competency
  • Above all be a kind, considerate and a respectful person and this will be reciprocated.
  • The universe works in mysterious ways and life has no rewind button.
