Over the last 6 years, we've partnered with Magnum Photos to offer a unique three-week documentary photography course held in August – Magnum Photography course.
Due to COVID-19, this year’s summer course will be held online. The core of the course remains the same: for 3 weeks, you will be asked to work on a photography project while attending lectures by Magnum photographers, LCC lecturers, artists and industry experts. The work produced during the course will be published in a zine and screened online during a public live event with a Q&A.
For the third year, we are proud to offer a scholarship opportunity for one Black photographer based in the UK.

For the second year, we were proud to offer a scholarship opportunity for one emerging photographer. This year’s successful applicant was Anselm Ebulue, who was also provided with a camera for the duration of the course, thanks to Fujifilm UK. We caught up with Anselm to discuss all things documentary photography, the impact of this opportunity, what he focused his work towards and his capturing of a politically fuelled topic which impacts the community he documented and is actively a part of.
Year on year, we’ve seen projects from students which span societal, political and creative issues through photos, illustration or animation – this year was no different with students from our annual Magnum Intensive Documentary Photography course looking to the world’s current climate for inspiration and their project focus. We’ve picked out a few which highlight how creativity can emphasise, communicate and enable further understanding of current issues worldwide.
When making a printed publication it can be hard to distance yourself from work you’ve created, to try and understand how a viewer will interpret it. With that in mind we joined a zine-making workshop led by Rafal Milach last month, during our annual Magnum Intensive Documentary Photography course, which challenged students to do just that.
In its fourth year, our three-week Magnum Intensive Documentary Photography Course in association with London College of Communication and Magnum Photos has brought new talent to the surface yet again.
