Bior Elliott graduated from BA (Hons) Design for Art Direction at London College of Communication in 2019.
Why did you choose to study this course and why London College of Communication?
I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to be a designer, an artist or a director – so I picked a degree with all of those things in the course title. Also I knew the degree would empower to me to be creative in multiple ways and I loved the course leader, Tara Langford’s work.
What have you been up to since graduating?
I'm currently enrolled at the University of Oxford, studying a Master's in History of Design. Alongside this, I work full-time as a creative coordinator at MCQ, which is a new brand under the house of Alexander McQueen. I joined MCQ after working on the last ever three issues of Love Magazine as a designer.
What was the most interesting project you worked on during the course?
The architecture exhibition in collaboration with the University of East London Architecture course was hugely interesting to work on and be a part of.
Did you complete any work placements / internships whilst being on the course?
I worked as a designer and junior art director at a now defunct interiors start-up called Hevnly. I also worked as a designer while on placement with What We Wear (a fashion label owned by Tinie Tempah). I got to work as a brand activation assistant on a few Adidas launches and events.
What important piece of advice would you give to students thinking of studying this course?
Come in to university all the time and just talk to people. Your understanding of the industry you’re in and the people who are working alongside you is essential.
What was the highlight of your LCC experience?
Living in London with my friend, acting like an ‘art student’ and going on trips to Europe with my course mates.
What was the most important thing you learnt on the course?
Listen and be brave.
How did you find being a student in London?
It was great! A lot of work, but very worth it. A great day would probably be: Wake up, go to the gym, go to uni, go to someone’s exhibition opening with some friends and have a drink (or 6) after.
If you had to describe your LCC experience in three words, what would they be?
Weird, warm and wonderful.
What are your career aspirations?
I want to be a creative director and the founder of a successful clothing brand. Is that too much to ask for?
