Withsto is a mental health start-up based in Elephant and Castle that allows expert practitioner psychologists to empower anyone looking to build and develop their mental well-being. They approached London College of Communication (LCC) to plan, shoot and edit films for five mental health courses on Bereavement, Relationship Break Up, Anxiety and Depression, Performance, and Sleep, to go on their website.
Dr Ute Liersch, the founder of Withsto, had an initial meeting with Polly Nash, Senior Lecturer at LCC. Six second year students from BA (Hons) Film Practice were selected to work on the brief in varying capacities for filming, sound and editing. The students consulted with Withsto’s technical team and LCC’s camera tutors, Ian Liggett and Kenny MacLeod, to develop the concept and production plan for the films.
70 short films were produced to cover the material for Withsto’s five Mental Health courses. The films were piloted with mental health services at Birkbeck University, where 400 students used them as course materials.
