To mark their 75th anniversary, the NHS partnered with London College of Communication (LCC) and looked to our talented student body to come up with a series of campaigns that championed two NHS key priority areas.
The students were given two briefs: First to improve awareness among young people for the variety of lesser-known career pathways available in the NHS. The second brief was to encourage young people, especially from Black African/Caribbean backgrounds, to donate blood to support those living with Sickle Cell disease.
LCC included the opportunity as a brief for the Design School’s Professional Practice Unit which is undertaken by second-year students of all the courses of the Design School including degrees in Branding and Identity, Graphic and Media Design, UX Design, Art Direction, Illustration and Visual Media and other disciplines.
Over 200 students responded to the briefs which resulted in the NHS selecting the The Missing Piece and Art Therapy campaigns for the first and second brief respectively to be used in the national NHS 75 campaign that year.
The activation of the Art Therapy campaign was initiated in December 2023 by showcasing the profile of Jed Jerwood, Senior Art Psychotherapist at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and by publishing profiles of the selected students on the NHS website.
NHS Blood and Transplant used the Missing Piece campaign assets created by the students to further the conversation on blood donation and encourage people to donate blood with posts on their LinkedIn and Facebook channels as well as their Instagram Stories.
The NHS also published an article on their website celebrating the collaboration as a whole.
