Research in the Media School
Research in the School of Media is collaborative and multi-disciplinary, encompassing practice and theory-based enquiry advanced through diverse, innovative approaches and methods. We address four key research areas:
Power, conflict and justice
Our researchers are concerned with the representation of conflict and suffering, spaces of control, surveillance and incarceration, and the relationship between visual culture and practices of reparation and social justice.
Digital technologies, cultures and economies
We research digital media in contemporary societies, with a particular focus on digital economies, emergent technologies, and media, mobility and migration.
The Digital Cultures and Economies Research Hub advances research in this area.
Media, history and memory
Research in this area explores media, history and memory, with a strong emphasis on communities and cultures. The Photography and the Archive Research Centre supports research in this area.
Creative industries: policy, management and innovation
Our researchers are interested in creativity, innovation and organisational structures. We examine the management of the creative industries and new developments in media legislation, cultural policy and media work. The Creative Industries Management Research Hub advances research in this area.
