Kate Iles is Year 3 Leader for BA (Hons) Film and Television at London College of Communication. Kate began her film and TV production career as a secretary at Channel 4, before starting work as a freelance researcher on documentary projects for Channel 4, ITV and the BBC.
In 1992, Kate set up independent production company Compulsive Viewing Ltd which she ran until 2005. During this time the company developed and produced the Channel 4 Film Challenge, a pioneering scheme to identify talented young directors and writers and to produce their work in an annual series of short films for peak time broadcast.
Amongst other projects she also produced 2 documentary series for Channel 4; “Fairplay” about women and sport and the self-explanatory “Catholics and Sex”; 2 films about the Bloomsbury artists, “Artists in Residence” for Channel 5, and an award-winning documentary film, “Asylum” for C4’s Cutting Edge strand. Kate also developed a number of long form dramas including a winner of and runner up to the BBC Potter Award in 1999 and 2002.
Since 2008 Kate has taught screenwriting and drama production at various Higher Education Institutions including Roehampton University, Royal Holloway (RHUL) and the University of Winchester.
Alongside teaching, she has worked as a script consultant for the BBC, Channel 4 and the UK Film Council and currently helps to run the Winchester Film Festival.
