Biography

Maitrayee Basu is a Lecturer in the Communications and Media Programme at London College of Communication, teaching mainly undergraduate students in both  BA (Hons) Advertising and BA (Hons) Media Communications.

Her experience of conducting doctoral research and working in various digital marketing roles at the same time before taking up a full-time academic role is crucial to her approach in teaching students with varied creative, intellectual and career interests in her classroom.

Her research focuses on transnational activism, representations of marginalised bodies and experiences, and digital identities from the global south. Her article ‘Representing “The Other India” in Transnational Public Spaces’ is forthcoming in the journal Recherches en Communication. Her teaching, therefore, often draws from ideas, theoretical frameworks, and case studies from a non-Western media context.

In her class you will learn to think about globalisation, identity, and representation of diversity in media in a nuanced way, which will help you in your media practice.

Prior to joining LCC, Maitrayee has worked as a lecturer and module convener at Middlesex University, University of Hertfordshire and University of West London.

She has also worked in marketing and communications roles at Macmillan Education, the journal Feminist Review, and various ad agencies in London and Dubai.
