London College of Communication MA Animation graduate Leszek Mozga’s short film ‘Roadkill’ has been selected to premiere at Cannes Film Festival, shortlisted for a BAFTA, and won Best Animation at Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
A stop-motion animated thriller, 'Roadkill' is set in a world where deer are the dominating species.
Leszek describes the world where "one alpha male deer goes for an evening car ride and has an unfortunate car accident."
'Roadkill' is one of three animated films to make the selection for the prestigious festival, chosen from 2,000 submissions. It will screen on Wednesday 22 May 2019 at 2.30pm in Buñuel Theatre, part of the Cinéfondation programme 3.
It has also made the shortlist for BAFTA's Student Film Awards 2019, with 60 films selected from over 500 submissions by students at film schools in 38 countries across the world.
And it won Best Animation at Aesthetica Short Film Festival Awards – a prestigious festival where previous winners have gone into win Oscars later in their career.

Leszek, a screenwriter, editor and director, graduated from London College of Communication in 2019.
Born in Poland, his debut short animated film "Don McCullin - Mind of an Artist" made an official selection of 17 film festivals and received three awards – including FilmOneFest Julie Gartenberg Memorial Award for Promising New Talent Award.

"'Roadkill' is a fabulous animated short that Leszek completed during his studies which us, which I first saw during our Postgraduate Shows last year, and is very deserving of this selection.
"This achievement highlights the fantastic talent here in the Screen School at London College of Communication. It is another demonstration that, through our teaching and learning and our diverse community of students and graduates, we continue to be alongside the leading film schools globally."
This year’s Cannes Film Festival will take place from 14 – 25 May 2019, with three Cinéfondation prizes to be awarded on 23 May.
Founded in 1998 by former Cannes President Gilles Jacob, the Cinéfondation selects between 17 and 22 films each year from film schools around the world.
A panel of BAFTA members will review the films on the shortlist and vote for three finalists each in the categories of Live Action, Documentary, and Animation, with finalists announced on 4 June.
This latest success for the Screen School at London College of Communication follows being selected for CILECT’s international community of leading film and television schools, as well as being awarded NESTA funding for a collaborative project with LADbible exploring how VR can combat harassment.
'Roadkill' will screen on Wednesday 22 May at 2.30pm in Buñuel Theatre, part of Cinéfondation programme 3.
