Alice's practice regularly uses elements of landscape furniture and structures such as gates, benches, chairs, huts, cabins and treehouses as both subject and object. She is interested in exploring ideas of home and the spaces we construct for ourselves.
The majority of the materials she uses in her practice are not new; the nails, paint, hinges and splinters having lost their original function, serve to show the journey through the making, all left evident on the surface of her materials. Rather than memorialising their histories, she explores new ways of combining and framing the material to push it towards unfamiliarity.
Her current research interests are focused on the use of text as a medium within the practice, exploring creative writing practices as a mode of understanding and testing how they might become material. A presentation of this work formed an exhibition called The Matter Facts at Coleman Projects in late 2023.
Alice exhibits widely, both nationally and internationally, recent exhibitions include MARY MARY, at The Artists Garden, London 2024-25, KK Trove with SqWLAB, Mumbai, A Mild Epiphany On My Bike, domobaal gallery, 2021 and The Contact Layer, Pictura, Montreal, 2020. She has received significant funding from the British Council and Arts Council England for research projects in Aarhus, Denmark (2018) and Merz Barn, Cumbria (2017.)
