Biography

Diego is a producer, sound designer, recording/mix engineer and Course Leader for BA (Hons) Music Production with vast experience in different fields of audio and higher education. He obtained a BA in Music and Sound Production from Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Berklee International Network) with a minor in Contemporary Music. In 2014, he graduated with an MA in Audio Production from the University of Westminster (London, UK). Where soon after started working as a Visiting Lecturer in graduate and postgraduate degrees (MA Audio Production, MA Interactive Media Practise and BA Commercial Music) teaching interactive audio and audio post-production.

In 2013, he started dB Audio Lab a post-production studio for sound design, mix for film, tv and multimedia, where he has led audio teams for film and web content from the UK, Lebanon, USA and Latin America. In 2017, he was appointed Associate Professor at Universidad de las Artes in Guayaquil-Ecuador, where he became the Course Leader for the Music and Sound Production program. He taught music recording, mixing and audio post-production; he also taught music technology at the MA Music Composition at UArtes and MA Audio Postproduction in the Digital Audio-visual Postproduction at ESPOL.

At UArtes, he led the funded research project 'Ecuador Sound Map' a collaborative interactive sound map.

Along with colleagues, he started 'CASE', The Ecuadorian Sound and Audio Conference and 'mMAT', an Art, Multimedia and Technology showcase/festival.

In 2019, he was part of the Global Minds program at HoGent University College Ghent and winner of 'COMUNA' artistic residency fund for a residency at CMMMAS (Mexico), where he showcased his work at Visiones Sonoras festival in 2020 and 2021. He is an AVID Pro Tools certified instructor (user and operator post).

He is academic advisor to audio brands like Eventide and Oeksound. Beta tester for Vienna MIR PRO 3D software; and has partnered with Universal Audio, Krotos, and Sonarworks.

His research and artistic practice are based on ancestral sound artefacts, archival processes, and sound memory. Currently, he is a Musicology PhD candidate at Universidad de Oviedo and Course Leader in the BA(Hons) Music Production at the London College of Communications.
