Ele Jin studied Graduate Diploma Photography at London College of Communication (LCC).
The practical aspect of the class interested me as I was determined to take photography as my career in the future.
After my graduation I came back to Shanghai, first working as a freelance fashion photographer, then I moved into the commercial field after a few years of practice.
In 2007, I founded my own production house so I became a manager as well as a photographer. The company turned out to be quite successful and has added more staff and more connections with other great photographers.
Now I can get away from the business routine and spend more time working on art projects. Since the year before last, I’ve been working on several photography project of my own. I collaborated with performer and dancers in 'parallel spaces' and another project 'Falling' was exhibited in Paris last year.
My art works have always been an expression of my own experience and feelings. As for the commercial works, I was lucky to be able to offer exactly what my clients wanted and this has made them come back again and again.
Consistent study, believing in myself, understanding life
Do more personal projects, and always make better work
The tutors of my course all have industry backgrounds which gave us a full understanding of the business. We also had use of facilities including a lab, studio, and equipment. Everything is very practical, which suited my needs at the time.
In addition, the whole creative atmosphere within University of the Arts London and London itself, gave me lots of opportunities to collaborate with other great talented people from fashion and design.
Make a good use of the library and connect with all the talented people you can meet.
