Biography

Martin is an Associate Lecturer on BA (Hons) Music Production at London College of Communication. He started his music career in 1986 as Ents Manager at Loughborough Students Union, before taking a role at Solo Agency booking shows and tours and travelling Europe with a wide variety of major and developing acts. After 8 years as an agent Martin moved into marketing, as general manager of Revolution Promotions, before a brief foray into running a film marketing company. Returning fully to music he set up 1917 Corp, working closely with music colleges in developing new artists for major labels as well as working on music for a number of films. For the last 12 years Martin has been an artist manager, most notably representing Australian pop act Sheppard for their first 3 albums with Decca Records, and currently represents 4 artists including punk legend Pauline Murray, singers Bo Bruce and James Toseland and the upcoming Scottish act Cheape.
In 2021 Martin completed an MA with distinction through Falmouth University / WaterBear College that focused on management structures in the modern music industry. His dissertation researched and contextualised the dilemmas that the manager faces working with developing acts in the digital age, and explored solutions that could benefit all. Subsequently he set up rockstar101, a consultancy service that enables artists to access his knowledge and strategic planning on an hourly basis. Martin lectures regularly at a variety of universities and music colleges, focusing on the structure and many intricacies of the music industry. In 2022 he delivered an innovative music business course to a group of students in Pentonville Prison. He has also delivered a wide range of units based in the music industry to TAFE college in Australia.
Martin is a lifelong Leicester City fan, and boasts an encyclopaedic knowledge of British punk and new wave.
