Robert Urquhart is the Course Leader for BA (Hons) Design Management at the London College of Communication.
Robert specialises in design and cultural insights through writing and journalism and strategy via start-up auditing, research and production. Job titles have included contributing editor, chief strategy officer, researcher and developer, online editor, production co-ordinator and curator.
Robert studied fine art before moving into sound design, producing sound effects for animations on UK TV with Channel 4 Learning. He then went on to curate an art gallery and host music events. From there, he moved into large-scale music festival production, research, development, and strategy for technology and media start-ups in London.
In 2005, Robert started writing for design magazines and working in viral advertising as a copywriter. Bringing skills in production and design knowledge together, in 2010, Robert worked for the London Design Festival, heading up the new online vision. In 2012 Robert won a D&AD award for editorial.
Since then, Robert has travelled a lot, lectured, and written as a freelance journalist and futurist for many of the world's leading design press, worked as a copywriter and, latterly, as a strategic consultant working with product designers and architects.
Before taking up the course leader position in 2023, Robert was formerly a lecturer and senior lecturer on BA (Hons) Design Management and a contributing editor for Elephant Magazine between 2015 and 2021.
