Originally from Delhi, India, Srishti graduated from MA Design Management in 2021.
What attracted you to postgraduate study, and MA Design Management?
After working as a graphics designer, I felt the need to see the business side of the creative industry. I aspired to develop a strategic perspective of design leadership and gain analytical skills required in the 21st century. MA Design Management at LCC provided me with the answers and the right environment for my curiosity.
What experience did you have prior to joining the course?
I had worked with brands like Swarovski, Elle and Dorling Kindersley as a graphics designer with a bachelors in Fashion Media Communication from Nottingham Trent University.
Can you tell us a little bit about your final major project? What was your inspiration behind it?
My research was shaped to understand the amalgamation of design, business, fashion and technology. It investigates Artificial Intelligence in fashion and beauty brands. The core theme is to understand ‘how to design and deliver a personalised consumer experience’ using new age technologies.
Did the course provide opportunities to engage with industry?
We had opportunities on a regular basis to interact with industry speakers from different areas in the design industry.
We were encouraged to explore London as a city and grasp the creative culture of the city deep rooted. Every class brought with it new challenges and conversations that opened our minds and were fed with new concepts of creativity and innovation.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking of studying the course, what would it be?
I would say be inquisitive and have an open mind.
Listen to your intuition and inner voice. It will lead you to your final major project and other collaborative projects. Also, allow flexibility and be resilient for plans to change.
What was the most important thing you learnt from studying Design Management at postgraduate level?
I understood the power of community. There’s a lot of untapped potential in finding your tribe. Also, looking for the right opportunities and the gap where you fit in.
Why would you recommend studying your course to others?
If you wish to take a course that provides the tools required to bridge the gap between creative and business side of the industry, it's a good catch! MA Design Management provides curriculum with business and management from a creative perspective with a mixture of practical and theoretical aspects.
Interactions with the tutors have been insightful, with a really strong alumni network working at reputed organizations around the world.
What was your personal highlight of studying your course at London College of Communication?
As an international student, studying design in London was a dream come true. The multicultural aspect added a new flavour to post-graduation.
What are you currently working on / what are your plans for the future?
I have recently finished two internships with fashion technology brands based in London and New York based on my thesis.
I am prepared to step forward in the industry and trudge in the direction of Product and Brand Management using my design and management skills.
