Students from BA (Hons) Design for Branded Spaces participated with the Stanley Kubrick Archive for a collaborative project. The participants were asked to design an escape room experience that utilises the archive materials.

An escape room is an immersive and interactive space, where participants interact with objects, materials and technologies in the space in order to find clues, solve puzzles and ‘escape’ from the room within a time limit. The students worked in teams to provide an unusual and exciting experience of the archive materials in order to foster different understandings of the archive.

A key aspect of the brief was to utilise an emerging technology such as projection mapping, augmented reality and/or arduinos. Students were required to test and protoype the use of technology, and document these tests in moving image form. As part of the research process students visited the archive and were funded by a student experience fund bit to visit an escape room.
