MA Public Relations students at London College of Communication (LCC) started the year with a live project for the consumer goods giant Unilever and its Lifebuoy hand gel range.
The brief for the project was run by Susan Smith of Unilever’s UK PR agency, Weber Shandwick, who has also been an industry mentor for LCC PR students for the last 3 years. It focussed on supporting the re-launch of Lifebuoy as a hygiene gel to help improve personal protection during the global pandemic.
Students formed agency teams to work the brief, which was part of their Contemporary PR Theory and Practice unit. They ended the 10-week unit with a pitch to the Unilever brand manager and Weber Shandwick.
“This project shows how well this course is connected with the contemporary PR industry and the challenges that agencies face today," said Aisling English, an MA Public Relations student at LCC.
"The unit mixed the practical aspects of PR with theory and models that we could use in our agency teams to put a solution together. We were also able to talk to the Account Director at Weber Shandwick who explained the brief at the outset and answered questions as we worked through the project.
"Although it seemed a big challenge on day one, this live brief was a great start to the course."
