London College of Communication is offering local charities, social enterprises and community groups free creative solutions – including web design, photography and video – for a project set to take place this summer.

Lambeth and Southwark-based charities, social enterprises and community groups are being encouraged to apply to the next iteration of Talent Works – an established community project run by the College which has already seen 83 local groups benefit.

Originally launched in 2016, the project has seen more than 100 creative students from both London College of Communication and Camberwell College of Arts make films, design posters, leaflets and newsletters, build websites, create social media content, take photographs and offer communications strategy advice to a broad range of groups.

Previous Talent Works “clients” have included Draper Together, the tenants and residents association for the Draper Estate in Elephant and Castle; Edible Rotherhithe, a social enterprise showing children how to grow their own food; Southwark Peace Garden, a new venue for work to cut violence among young people; and Waterloo Community Theatre, who create theatre with and for young people aged eight to 18 in North Lambeth and Southwark.

All clients receive the work completely free of charge, while the students are paid for their work thanks to funding from London College of Communication.

The project aims to provide real life work experience for a diverse range of students for whom finding placements had previously been difficult, while also making a big impact to the College’s local communities.

Anna Glarin, from Waterloo Community Theatre, said: “The impact of us having taken part will be huge. It will enhance our brand while enabling us to be more visible in our community. Having well-designed physical leaflets that explain to people who we are and what we do is crucial.”

“We’ve already worked with a broad range of local charities, social groups and community groups, and hope to hear from lots of new "clients” for the next round of Talent Works this July!” Matt Guy, Partnerships Manager at London College of Communication

And now London College of Communication is hoping to reach even more Southwark and Lambeth-based charities, social enterprises and community with the latest round of Talent Works – running from 17 to 26 July 2019.

Matt Guy, Partnerships Manager at London College of Communication, said: “94% of clients we’ve worked with through Talent Works so far said they were either satisfied or totally satisfied with the work our students produced.

“Our students across the Design, Media and Screen industries bring innovative solutions, fresh ideas and enthusiastic energy to projects like these – and we’re excited to see what they come up with through Talent Works next.

“We’ve already worked with a broad range of local charities, social groups and community groups, and hope to hear from lots of new "clients” for the next round of Talent Works this July!"

Applications to take part are open until 10 June 2019. Please contact Matt Guy, Partnerships Manager at London College of Communication, to apply and find out more: matt.guy@lcc.arts.ac.uk.
