We’ve rounded up top things to this January as recommended by LCC staff.
“I took my family to this on the day after New Years, it’s always on our calendar and this year the exhibition touched me in new ways. Even 16-month-old Cassius was stunned by the beautifully presented images. The chance to see our planet displayed like this, should not be missed.”
Jackson Jessop, Head of Learning Environments
“’The Woolworths Choir of 1979‘ (2012) weaves together different kinds of material, above all images and text. It is a wonderful example of what we are currently investigating with our ‘Writing Photographs’ UAL Teaching Scholars project, looking at how photographs are expanded by writing in the exhibition context. Elizabeth Price won the Turner Prize in 2012 with this multi-layered video work.”
Dr Wiebke Leister, Course Leader MA Photography
“The exhibition is free. It traces the history of the NT poster from 1963 to date and covers the key protagonists: Ken Briggs, Richard Bird, Michael Mayhew, Charlotte Wilkinson and Ollie Winser. Poynor’s analysis is highly insightful and tracks the development within both the approach to poster design but also the subject in general. ”
Tony Pritchard, Course Leader Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma Design for Visual Communication
“A great exhibition, at the new Design Museum. Located under the regular exhibit floors at the fantastic new museum, which looks at graphic and product design through our time. All the modern iconic design ideas are featured. The transformation of the Commonwealth Institute into the new museum space is also photo-documented on the sumptuous walkways. An incredible space to see, definitely worth a visit!”
“It’s the re-opening of Hayward Gallery after a refurbish so very excited to see the new space and the exhibition itself will be large-scale photography, look forward to seeing how it’s curated.”
Lacey Glave, Digital Manager
“I recommend looking for the small and more esoteric/eclectic museums and locations that London has to offer…”
Paula Nessick, Tutor on International Introduction to Design and Media Communication
“As part of London Lumiere Festival, the RA will display a new digital artwork by RA Schools alumnus Rhys Coren, titled Love Motion. It’s a free night-time light installation!”
“Every year I create a vision board to visualise my big and small aspirations – this year I wanted to share my experience and kick start my year on a high. I loved the Millennial Mentions Vision Board workshop and it’s exciting to see that they are hosting another workshop on the 30 January. I would highly recommend booking if you also need a fun and interactive space to visualise your year.”
Alae Ismail, Marketing and Study Abroad Co-ordinator
“New play from the writer of the film Moonlight, (2017 Academy Award winner for Best Picture). After a spell in prison, two African-American brothers reunite through Yoruba mythology and live music. Has amazing reviews; “ritual and reality intertwine in this darkly sparkling, brilliant play.”
