Faced with uncertain times, our MA students have continued to adapt and innovate with true creativity.
In celebration of our Postgraduate Showcase, we’ll be sharing work from a range of graduating designers, thinkers and makers as they explore new, thoughtful and experimental approaches to creative communications.
At London College of Communication, our MA Animation course explores theory and practice across a broad range of experimental visual media.
With new technologies changing how we make, understand and experience animation, our students have been encouraged to test boundaries and look at the practice in many forms and many ways.
Yiqing (Delsin) Huang is a Chinese animator who loves telling stories and exploring the connection between narrative and abstraction through characters created using simple lines and shapes.
A Good Night was inspired by a story from Delsin's childhood, and offers a symbol of the ways in which animation can help us to realise and share our memories through imaginary journeys.
Kea Xie (Yichia Hsieh) is a Taiwanese animator currently based in London. Her observations and narrative skills are an understanding of rhythm in motion images, all of which enables her to transform abstract meaning into visual symbols.
Alona features a lonely boy on a faraway planet who endlessly waits for a companion. In this film, Kea asks us to consider whether love can truly eliminate the feeling of alienation, and whether the act of loving is more about a chosen individual or simply a projection of the self.
Dani Marsh is a 2D animator, illustrator and filmmaker. Before joining LCC, she studied Fashion Illustration at London College of Fashion, and is also part of Greatcoat Studio. Dani has been featured in several festivals and exhibitions including Tate Modern’s Uniqlo Tate Lates (2020), Aesthetica Short Film Festival (2019), and Today at Apple (2018).
Her MA Graduation Film, Lighter, is a dark fairytale which explores the idea of letting go in order to reach freedom. Set in a world where mythical Scandinavian 'Huldra' are chained to the ground by their long braided hair, Dani's work focuses on a forbidden love story between 2 women which enables her to explore themes of loneliness, oppression, control and self-sacrifice.
Yige Yang is an independent animator and illustrator who works in both traditional 2D drawn animation and experimental animation.
Her short film, Blinded by Love, focuses on the relationship between loving and being loved, shining a light on what it means to be over-protective. As the lead character becomes determined to do anything to help a seed grow, the seed is equally stripped of its autonomy, drawing questions of love and self-sacrifice, and the nature of toxic relationships.
Raffaele Gabrielli is a 2D animator based in London who often works under the name 'garptwo' and is particularly interested in experimenting with different approaches and mediums.
ICHTHYOPHOBIA (fear of fish) uses the power of immersive technology to depict a metaphorical journey about the nature of feeling afraid. Situated in a virtual reality (VR) environment, audiences follow a deeply personal experience in the mind of the director which reflects on the very nature of thinking and thought.
