"'Emevada' is a body of work which investigates gender representation and its performative nature.
"The work compromise the creation of a genderless character, named after the anagram of Adam & Eve, the original from which gender is thought to be born in western society. The character may “acquire” specific gender connotations based on the pose and the way the image is framed.
"The work is a response to Judith Butler’s analysis of gender as a performance, thus a human-constructed entity. The video installation symbolises Emevada first walk on earth, which is emphasised by the dramatic sound and its religious undertone.
"Gender attributes are consciously left out, leaving the viewer confused and disoriented as unable to process the image, evidencing the power in which gender and other representational stereotype exist in the bones of our system."
